Matthias Samwald

Post-doctoral Research Fellow

Matthias obtained his doctorate from the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna. He has a background in biomedical informatics. The aim of his work is the use of novel web technologies, ontologies, large-scale data integration and information retrieval techniques to speed up progress in pharmaceutical R&D and medical practice. He worked for the Yale Center for Medical Informatics, Science Commons, the Semantic Web Company, the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research and DERI Galway. He is an active member of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Health Care and Life Science Interest Group.

Linda Andersson

Linda Andersson

PhD student

Linda obtained her Degree of Master of Arts in Computational Linguistics at Stockholm University, Sweden. The title of her Master Thesis was “A Vector Space analysis of Swedish patent claims, does decompounding help?” The next step for Linda is to write a PhD dissertation at IRF Society in collaboration with the Technical University of Vienna. The topic will be “The essence of Patent Retrieval – A cross-linguistic study”. In her dissertation she will explore an alternative way to capture the concept of a patent by investigating logic or semi logic features of expression in the patent genre.

Parvaz Mahdabi

Parvaz Mahdabi

IRF PhD Fellow

Parvaz received her master degree from Tarbiat Modares University,Tehran, Iran. In her master thesis she worked on evolutionary algorithms inspired from quantum computing principles. Currently she is working on her PhD at the University of Lugano (USI), Switzerland. Her thesis has the working title: Interactive Patent Search supervised by Prof. Fabio Crestani and Dr. Monica Landoni.
