IRF General Privacy Policy
Unless otherwise stated on any of the IRF sites this Privacy Policy applies to all of the products, services and websites (hereinafter referred to as “Services”) offered by the Information Retrieval Facility Society (hereinafter referred to as IRF or we/us), ZVR-Number: 589671732, Am Brigittenauer Sporn 5, A-1200 Vienna, Austria or its subsidiaries.
IRF, a society registered under the laws of Austria, an EU Member state, abides by the rules of the Austrian Data Protection Law and the Austrian Telecommunications Act. Any personal data collected by the IRF is collected, processed and used in line with the requirements of the Austrian Data Protection Act (Datenschutzgesetz, DSG 2000), and is treated in compliance with the Austrian Telecommunications Act (Telekommunikationsgesetz, TKG). In case of a conflict between mandatory provisions of the Austrian Data Protection Law, the Austrian Telecommunications Act and this Privacy Policy, the mandatory provisions of the Austrian Data Protection Law or the Austrian Telecommunications Act shall prevail.

1. Information IRF collects and how IRF uses it
In order to provide IRF’s full range of Services, IRF may collect the following types of information:
- Information you provide – When you sign up for any of the services IRF provides we ask you for personal information (such as your name, your organisation, email address, your or your organisation’s address, your telephone number and your date of birth etc.).
- For certain Services, IRF may also request credit card or other payment account information which IRF maintains in encrypted form on secure servers.
- Cookies – Small files containing a string of characters, so called “cookies”, will be sent to your computer. We are using cookies and other devices in order to uniquely identify your browser, which could improve the quality of our Services.
- Log information – When you access IRF Services, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit our websites. - Affiliated IRF Services on other sites – IRF offers some of its Services on or through other web sites. - Other sites – This Privacy Policy applies to IRF Services only. We do not exercise control over the sites displayed as search results, sites that include IRF applications, products or services, or links from within our various services. IRF only processes personal information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and/or the supplementary privacy notices for specific services. In addition to the above, such purposes include:

- Auditing, research and analysis in order to maintain, protect and improve our Services;
- Ensuring the technical functioning of our network;

2. Choices for personal information
When you sign up for a particular Service that requires registration, we ask you to provide personal information. If we use this information in a manner different than the purpose for which it was collected, then we will ask for your consent prior to such use.

3. IRF does not share personal information
IRF does not shares personal information with other companies or individuals outside of IRF. We may share with third parties certain pieces of aggregated non personal information, such as the number of users who searched for a particular term, for example. Such information does not identify you individually.
4. Information security
IRF takes appropriate security measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, unauthorised alteration, disclosure or destruction of data. These include internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures, as well as physical security measures to guard against unauthorised access to systems which store personal data.
We restrict access to personal information to IRF employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Services. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations or non disclosure agreements and may be subject to discipline, including termination and criminal prosecution, if they fail to meet these obligations.
5. Data integrity
IRF processes personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected and in accordance with this Privacy Policy or any applicable Service-specific privacy notice. When we receive formal written enquiries at this address, it is the IRF’s policy to contact the enquirer regarding his or her concerns. We will cooperate with the appropriate regulatory authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints regarding the transfer of personal data that cannot be resolved between the IRF and an individual.

Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your explicit consent, and we expect most such changes will be minor.
