Abstract
Managing IPR is all about handling and maintaining large quantities of information. Ideally, IP information pertains to several processes business operations represent-ing most links in the value chain, for instance business strategy, R&D, production, S&M and economics. To a modern knowledge driven business, access to the techni-cal and legal information in patent documents is of pivotal importance in order to optimise its strategy and operations. Management of business relevant patent and technical information involves requesting, searching, sampling, filing, distribution and employing the information. Given present days volume of the patent literature, all processes demand adequate internal organization in order to promote competitive advantages to the enterprise. Sampled technical information requires handling in a framework that provides an overview to the end-user, irrespective of the information being applied in a technical, legal or strategic context. Here, examples of organiza-tion are provided together with tools that provide overview of information from patent documents for R&D, legal and business development purposes.
